Care should be had when netting the Coral Beauty as its dorsal spines can easily get tangled – a bucket is suggested. The Coral Beauty can reach up to 4 inches, and is best kept in a tank no less than 55 gallons, along with plenty of live rock with natural algae growth, as it likes to graze on algae in between meals. If you would like to keep more than one per tank,  be sure to have a large enough aquarium and introduce them at the same time, to limit territorial aggression. They do not live well with other Angelfish otherwise. They Coral Beauty does do very little or no harm to invertebrates, although they are better about it than other Angelfish, they may occasionally peck at tubeworms or coral polyps.  But if they are properly fed they will often ignore corals altogether. The Coral Beauty is a hardy fish, and  will eat an omnivorous diet of various types of fresh and dried marine algae, spirulina enriched foods, mysis shrimp, shaved shrimp and other high-quality meaty foods, angelfish preparations, and flake or pellet foods as well. Overall, the Coral Beauty Angel is a staple among home aquarists as it is one of the most attractive dwarf angelfish species out there.  The Coral Beauty thrives in a temperature range of  72-78° F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.

The Blue Hippo tang is one of the most beautiful and interesting fish in our oceans, but it is certainly not for the novice aquarist. If you are not an expert aquarist with a tank of at least 180 gallons, please consider another fish for your aquarium display. The marine aquarium hobby is a wonderful and rewarding hobby and we encourage you to start up a tank and explore all it has to offer. But we all also have a responsibility to the oceans and the animals that we purchase to ensure that we have the tools and experience to be successful. If you have questions about this animal or selecting a suitable alternative, please call or email us and we will be happy to give you a personal consultation.
The Blue Hippo Tang, a.k.a. Regal Tang, is a beautiful blue fish with black bands and a yellow tailfin. These fish have interesting behavior and do well in groups. The Blue Hippo likes lots of rockwork to help make it feel secure. They can be kept singly or in groups. The Blue Hippo can be very timid and may wedge themselves under rocks and into caves and crevices when young or new to an aquarium. In the wild they will wedge themselves into coralheads and branching corals. They are very peaceful towards other fish and do well in a peaceful community or reef tank. This fish will often lie on its side and “play dead”.The Surgeonfish family consists of fish which are colorful, thin-bodied, and usually have an oval shape. These fish have long continuous dorsal and anal fins and crescent tailfins. The scalpel at the base of their tailfin is very sharp and is used by the fish for protection from predators as well as a way of establishing itself with other fish. These fish are usually seen at reefs eating algae all day long.

Sailfin Tang https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/tangs/sailfin-tang-1/ https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/tangs/sailfin-tang-1/#respond Thu, 10 Aug 2023 17:18:26 +0000 https://stage.frags2fishes.com/?post_type=product&p=27419 With the presence of a very large and pronounced dorsal fin,  this fish is aptly named the Sailfin Tang. When threatened, they can raise their dorsal fin ton appear larger than they reallly are, protecting themselves from predators.  The Sailfin Tang is also known as the Eastern sailfin tang, Pacific sailfin tang, Sail fish tang, Ringed tang, Purple-lined tang, Pacific sailfin surgeonfish, and Pacific sail-fin surgeonfish. They are indigenous to the Pacific Ocean and Western Indian Ocean. The Sailfin Tang is mainly found in rock and coral reefs. During the juvenile stage, the fish are solitary creatures who prefer to stay hidden among rocks or corals. When they are adult, they mostly live singly or in pairs. The Sailfin Tang species is one of the largest members of the genus Zebrasoma. The Sailfin Tang needs a bigger aquarium and should not be housed in tank smaller than 75 gallons. They are a hardy and tolerant species who thrive well in a temperature range of 72-78 degrees and pH range of 8.1 to 8.4. The Sailfin Tang fish feeds on leafy microalgae, so any tank with a sufficient amount of algae makes a very good habitat for this species. The male Sailfin Tang tends to grow larger that the female Sailfin Tang. Though they can get along with other tank mates quite peacefully, they are territorial in nature towards similar looking fish. The Sailfin Tang helps keep corals healthy by preventing overgrowth of algae by feeding around them.

Atlantic Blue Caribbean Tang https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/tangs/atlantic-blue-caribbean-tang/ https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/tangs/atlantic-blue-caribbean-tang/#respond Thu, 27 Jul 2023 19:07:11 +0000 https://stage.frags2fishes.com/?post_type=product&p=27380 The Blue Caribbean Tang, also known as the Atlantic Blue Tang, Blue Tang Surgeonfish, and simply the Blue Tang, has an oval body with bold markings that change as the fish matures from juvenile to adult. A juvenile is bright yellow with two blue bands at the eyes, and additional blue markings at the fringes of the dorsal and caudal fins. When mature, the blue will become even brighter with markings running horizontally along the entire body. It may have a yellow tail.

A 180 gallon or larger aquarium is necessary to provide plenty of swimming room. It is aggressive towards other Tangs and Surgeonfish, but peaceful with other fish.

Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine based seaweed and algae. This will strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health. Offer dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip, and feed at least 3 times per week. Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad and Ocean Nutrition are all ideal products and are very easy to use.

Approximate Purchase Size: Juvenile Medium: 2″ to 2-1/2″; Adult Small: 2-1/2″ to 3″, Adult Medium: 3″ to 4″, Adult Large: 4″ to 6″

Yellow Angelfish https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/angelfish-dwarf/yellow-angelfish/ https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/angelfish-dwarf/yellow-angelfish/#respond Tue, 25 Jul 2023 11:33:59 +0000 https://stage.frags2fishes.com/?post_type=product&p=27298 The Yellow Angelfish, Centropyge heraldi, also known as the as the Yellow Pygmy Angelfish or Cherubfish, features a sold yellow body, fins, and tail. As one of the smaller dwarf angels, it thrives in a small aquarium with plenty of live rock and crevices. It is not necessarily reef safe as it can nip at corals and sessile inverts. As a semi-aggressive Angel it should not be kept with gobies, flasher wrasses, or firefish. But can be peaceful in a larger tank, or if added last. The Yellow Angelfish is easy to care for and is a hardy fish, they will graze algae, eat Spirulina, or mysis or brine shrimp. Be careful if the Yellow Angel’s color begins to fade or if they get bloated as they may be sick. This is rare, though. Overall, the Yellow Angel is a wonderful addition to most tanks. They will thrive in temperatures from 72-78° F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.

Zebra Flounder – Atlantic https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/zebra-flounder-atlantic/ https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/zebra-flounder-atlantic/#respond Tue, 25 Jul 2023 11:31:35 +0000 https://stage.frags2fishes.com/?post_type=product&p=27246 The Zebra Flounder, Gymnachirus sp., also known as the Zebra Sole, features a distinctive black and white striped ovular body. This species is relatively peaceful and will spend much of its time along the sand bed, therefore it is suggested that you keep it in a tank with a thick sandy substrate. The Zebra Flounder will take frozen prepared meaty foods like brine or mysis shrimp as well as flake foods. Occasionally, the Zebra Flounder may act aggressively towards smaller fish and inverts if it feels threatened making it a reef safe with caution species. They can be a difficult species to keep in captivity so it is suggested that only experienced aquarist care for the Zebra Flounder.

Evansi Anthias https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/evansi-anthias/ https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/evansi-anthias/#respond Tue, 25 Jul 2023 11:30:06 +0000 https://stage.frags2fishes.com/?post_type=product&p=27213 The Evansi Anthias, Pseudanthias evansi, or Evan’s Anthias, or the Yellowtail Anthias, is mainly pink/purple with a yellow dorsal and anal fin. The Evansi Anthias is peaceful and will thrive in a tank with other non-aggressive fish. Like many other anthias species, the Evansi Anthias is hermaphroditic. Often one large dominant male lives with females. If that male dies, the next largest female will morph into a male and assume leadership of the group. If more than one anthias is desired, it is suggested to get one male and multiple females. They are housed more comforatably in a tanks no smaller than 70 gallons if keeping one, larger tanks are needed for multiple individuals. Though the Evansi Anthias is relatively small, they are rather fickle to care for so this fish is not recommended for beginner aquarists. Once acclimated, the Evansi Anthias should be fed a mixture of meaty frozen foods and quality flake foods. With multiple individuals, the Evansi Anthias creates a beautiful mosaic of color within any reef tank. They will thrive in a temperature range of 72-78° F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.

Green Chromis Damsel – Fiji https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/green-chromis-damsel-fiji/ https://stage.frags2fishes.com/saltwater/fish/green-chromis-damsel-fiji/#respond Tue, 25 Jul 2023 11:29:25 +0000 https://stage.frags2fishes.com/?post_type=product&p=27194 The Green Chromis, Chromis viridis, is a species of damselfish indigenous to the Indo-Pacific region. This species from the family Pomacentridae is found in large aggregations above Acropora corals in sheltered areas such as lagoons and reef flats. The Green Chromis has slender, elongated, oval bodies with an iridescent green sheen and forked tail. As it swims under the aquarium lighting, the Green Chromis shows a mesmerizing shimmer that will provide a flash of brilliance in your aquarium. The Green Chromis is mellow as the most peaceful damsel and are safe for any home aquarium. They look splendid in schools, and exquisite in a well lit aquarium. The Green Chromis fish are active swimmers and spend most of their time in the upper to mid-levels of an aquarium during the day. They are very easy to maintain and does not require much care or time. A good assortment of live rock will make them feel right at home. The Green Chromis is a great addition in your tank because of its peaceful nature and for its unique color. If you have created a perfect biotope for this fish, you may be lucky enough to see them spawn. The male will prepare a nest in the sand, in which several females of the species will share. Once fertilized, the male will guard the nest until the eggs hatch and encourage water flow by fanning the nest. Eggs that are not fertilized or showing no signs of hatching will be eaten by the male. The Green Chromis is a great addition in your tank because of its peaceful nature and for its unique color, thus making a very valuable addition to your home tank.

This fish makes for an excellent addition to most reef aquariums as it is reef safe and non-aggressive. Ample open rock formations and a soft sandy substrate should be in your tank for the Railway Sleeper Goby. The Railway Sleeper Goby can also be a beneficial member to your tank as it is constantly aerating substrate and bringing up nutrients for other tank members. The Railway Sleeper Goby should be housed in a tank at least 25 gallons and should not be kept with members of its own species, unless they are a mated pair. It takes a carnivorous diet of mysis and brine shrimp as well as other carnivorous foods.
